Our vision to redefine well-being by elevating plant-based healing and purpose for all begins at the source — our source.
Our Whole Hemp Extract with CBD
As ambassadors of this plant with a profound respect for its power and potential, we take its sourcing very seriously: its origin, the soil it’s planted in, how it’s cared for and how it’s processed afterwards. It matters. A lot. Because at the heart of it, these factors influence purity, concentration, land health and ultimately, your health. So we sought out the very best, traveling to hemp fields across the country, eating at farmers’ kitchen tables, and inspecting extraction facilities in order to find it.
One very special farm met our uncompromising standards. Family owned, multi-generational, good people. Their depth of knowledge (agronomy and botany) and dedication to soil health, organic quality and sustainability were second to none — they were exactly the partner we had been searching for.
But the story doesn’t end there. Our commitment to ingredient quality begins with seed and soil and carries all the way through to our extraction process.
World Class Seed
We use proprietary plant genetics of industrial hemp — which have multiple patents pending for groundbreaking breeding techniques — all made possible and substantiated by advanced genomic mapping.
Our uniquely feminized hemp seed genetics are optimized for a high concentration of CBD (cannabidiol), as well as minor concentrations of other cannabinoids such as CBDA, CBG, CBN and CBC. The whole hemp flower, like the one we use to create our broad-spectrum extract, also has various percentages of many therapeutic compounds like terpenes, flavonoids, amino acids, polyphenols, enzymes, aldehydes, ketones, alkamides, antioxidants, omega fatty acids, chlorophylls and vitamins/minerals.
Ideally Located Family Farm
Of the 78,176 acres of hemp grown in the US in 2018, these 500 acres of hemp are some of the finest. Located on the Columbia River Gorge in the northern foothills of Oregon, this land is considered one of the ideal climate biomes to grow in. The farm also employs zero-waste cultivation techniques — using no single-use plastic containers or sheeting, as well as no synthetic soil inputs or artificial growing aids to ensure living, healthy soils. Our hemp is grown with oversight by the Oregon Department of Agriculture and in compliance with section 7606 of the 2014 federal Farm Bill.
Organic, Regenerative Agriculture Practices
We believe in regenerative agriculture. Unlike hemp grown in greenhouses, biodynamically growing outdoors allows “our girls” (hemp plants) to be fully nurtured by natural sunlight, wind, moonlight and other seasonal biorhythms, creating what we feel is the highest quality and dynamic raw material.
All of our hemp biomass is naturally grown using only organic principles as defined by the United States National Organic Program (NOP). This means no harsh, synthetic additives during the entire process: no pesticides, no insecticides, no herbicides, no petroleum-based chemical fertilizers, no hydrocarbon solvents and no irradiation.
Broad-Spectrum Whole Hemp CBD
Cannabinoids are natural compounds and molecules of hemp oil that are extracted from the hemp plant. Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, a well known cannabinoid, is just one of many cannabinoids and accounts for up to 40% of the plant’s extract.
We extract and purify our hemp using CO2 supercritical fractionation to remove waxes, chlorophyll, pollutants and THC. We are not isolating any one specific cannabinoid, but rather, using a broad spectrum of cannabinoids in combination with polyphenols, terpenes, sterols and flavonoids to work synergistically, as nature intended.
Clean, Slow, Gentle: Our Extraction Process
How hemp oil is extracted from the plant truly matters. We never use ethanol, steam, or hydrocarbon solvents to extract and purify our oil in order to remove THC and other unwanted constituents (like waxes and chlorophyll). We’ve chosen to use supercritical CO2 from beginning to end for many reasons:
- Clean: Free of hydrocarbons (like butane and hexane), toxins and heavy metals, which can either come into contact with oil or be byproducts/residual components when other solvent methodologies are used. It’s the standard for food products, and we wanted nothing less.
- Slow & Targeted: Throughout the process we can dynamically control the temperature to target the things we want to take out (like waxes and THC), while leaving all of the stuff we love (like CBD, other cannabinoids, terpenes and polyphenols).
- Gentle: Other extraction methods that use solvents such as hydrocarbons or ethanol/alcohol mixtures require additional distillation and purging to separate the solvent from the oil, which results in more processing and heating of the material. Unlike those methodologies, CO2 naturally separates from the oil at room temperature, ensuring minimal processing of the oil. CO2 can also be done at temperatures native to the plant, minimizing thermal degradation and ensuring integrity of the plant compounds — preserving the plant’s naturally broad spectrum of cannabinoids, terpenes, enzymes, flavonoids, and unique profile for an optimally dynamic, broad spectrum oil.
And just like the farm where we chose to grow our hemp, we selected a best-in-class extraction partner with a shared commitment to uncompromising quality and standards. With over 30 years of experience, they are experts in the supercritical CO2 extraction process and operate a state-of-the-art, licensed, FDA-registered, GMP-certified facility located in New England.
